I am posting this, because my girlfriends blog is 3 months old...(hint-hint!) Yesterday there was an article in the local paper about her oldest Ethiopian son, who has been home since last February. We first met Ashy in Addis when we adopted Sami and Tsion last January. He is such a special kid! Here is a snippet....you can read the entire article HERE.
......."Carlson's turn for the worse started when Ashy's mother died at childbirth and his father soon after disappeared. His younger siblings were sent to an orphanage, but because he was nine he was told he was too old to join them. So he was on his own, swallowed up by the streets where thousands like him live.
For a boy of nine, Ashy had uncommon maturity to him. When he was shooed away from the orphanage, he sat down and decided he needed three things to survive. They were, he said, God, friends and a goal for his life.
"He told me that if he didn't have those goals, he would have gotten sick and died," Cathy Carlson said."
If you have a second, visit my girlfriends blog, and leave her a comment encouraging her to blog more about adoption and adopting older kids. ;)))
